Join Us!

We are looking for enthusiastic trainees with diverse backgrounds to join us! Trainees with experience in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, genomics, computational biology, chemistry, or ecology are a great fit in our group and we are excited about the unique perspective and skillset you will contribute.

Prospective Graduate Student Trainees

Students interested in joining the Wesener Lab at OSU should apply directly to the Microbiology Graduate Program or the Ohio State Biochemistry Program. In our graduate program, students will find diverse research topics and be able to seek out unique research experiences during three laboratory rotations. Please reach out to Prof. Wesener directly to discuss a potential rotation and projects. We are looking to add multiple new graduate students this Fall.

Undergraduate Trainees

The Ohio State University undergraduates, please apply directly to the lab by emailing Prof. Wesener. In your email, please attach: your completed resume/CV (please include major and current GPA), a copy of your advising report, plus answer the three below questions using up to two paragraphs per question.

1) What interests you about the research in our lab and what motivates you to join our lab as an undergraduate researcher?

2) What are your career goals, what motivates you to pursue these goals, and how will researching in our lab help you achieve these goals?

3) What do you envision for this research position? Including: How long do you see yourself staying with us? Are you interested in doing this for credit? Part of a course requirement? Financial aid work-study? On-campus job?

Undergraduates from diverse majors join the Wesener Lab and will be paired with primary mentors in the group and regularly meet with Prof. Wesener. Students typically spend 8-15 hours per week in the lab, joining us 2-3 days per week, for at least a year. Students attend our lab meetings and benefit from seeing what they learn in class put into practice by performing their own human gut microbota research.

Undergraduates not currently enrolled at OSU, please consider applying to our Summer Research Opportunities Program.
